Wythenshawe NHS Hospital – Manchester

Clinical Sciences Building

System kWp: 72
Modules Used: Schuco 255W

To reduce the substantial energy bills and CO2 emissions at a major acute teaching hospital of the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust. Helping to secure its on-going goal of becoming carbon neutral and claim to be “Britain’s greenest hospital”.

Following an assessment of the options available to the NHS Trust, including the feasibility and cost benefits of a variety of PV solutions, including glass walkways. Polysolar were invited to tender for a roof mount PV array that would maximise the power generation from the Clinical Science Building south facing roof.

Polysolar were awarded the tender for a 72 kWp roof mount installation in collaboration with Playfords Electrical who were contracted to install the full roof panels and electrical system.

Polysolar won the Tender based on its understanding of the client’s requirements, attention to detail  and value. The installation was completed on time and within budget with minimal disruption to the vital 24 hour, seven days a week operations of the medical test facility.

The installation was designed to enhance the look of the building with edge to edge mounting of the panels, without penetration of the roof’s waterproof membrane.  The wiring and inverters were concealed within the restricted space of the roof structure.

The solar installation is expected to save up to 30 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year and reduce the building’s substantial electricity costs by up to 10%, saving the NHS Trust over £10,000 a year.
