Polysolar Delivers Solar Canopy at New Cambridge South Station
Polysolar has completed the design, supply and installation of a semi-transparent solar platform canopy at Cambridge South, the UK's newest railway station.
The station, which serves the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and the wider Trumpington area, opened to passengers on 28 June 2026 and will be the first in the country to carry Great British Railways branding.
Polysolar's building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) glass forms part of the station's sustainable roof, which combines solar generation with rainwater harvesting and wildflower and sedum planting — delivering clean power to the station while providing shelter for passengers.
The project reflects Polysolar's ongoing work across the East Anglian rail network, following its earlier installation at the solar-powered cycle park at Cambridge North station.
